Eco-friendly projects

These projects are born under the motto of Reducing-Reusing-Recycling and are practical examples of useful things made out of waste.

5. Covid Solutions -  Upcycled furniture

Due to the current situation, our library has been closed to students. Until it gets any better, we deliver books to classrooms using this portable solutions made out of fruit boxes that bring us again the opportunity to stop wasting and to keep on upcycling.

4. Eco-chairs: creating consciousness

In the school year 2018-2019, our students were given fruit once a week to eat as a snack during the recess time. This was a really good idea to foster a healthy life but, at the same time, it implied having loads of cardboard boxes to be thrown directly to the trash as the fruit was being delivered.
As soon as we realised that these boxes were clean and strong raw stuff to be used somehow in our classroom, we decided to keep them until we came up with a useful idea.

T
he idea came to us by chance one day when someone used them to sit on top: we saw it clearly, we would use them to create silent chairs.

I created a model and presented it to my students, who did not doubt in making it better by adding extra storage space and making them more colourful.

The "tee-chairs" were eco, strong, useful, light and silent.

3. Art projects: Autumn paths

In the classroom we have a box full of small leftovers of paper, cardboard and fabrics. It is an amazing resource to create any type of projects, specially Arts and Maths projects.

2. Furniture solutions

I used cardboard boxes -the ones of packets of paper sheets that are usually thrown away- , recycled colourful paper - always use both sides!-  and tape to build up this paper-work organiser.
It is light and it can be easily moved from one spot into another by making no effort. It is easy to replace in case it gets damaged by any (strange) reason as it is made of cardboard, and for this same reason it is eco-friendly because it can be recycled.

It is very useful for organising paper work, homework deliveries, handouts and worksheets. It is even as a post box when somebody is absent.

1. Flower pot for classroom garden

This was one of first projects. These self containers are not just flower pots but also self-watering containers: when the plants are watered, all the water they do not need is collected in the bottom of the plastic bottle so that it can be reused to water it once and again until it ends up.
